Modules

7 modules • 13+ hours • Practical AI for marine engineers and merchant marine officers—onboard and ashore.

Introduction

NAUT-IA includes 7 modules (13+ hours) designed for marine engineers and merchant marine officers. The approach is fully practical: applying AI tools in daily work, onboard and ashore, to improve technical reporting, fault diagnosis, predictive maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency.

Modules (M01–M07)

Cargo ship in Northern Europe

M01 Fundamentals of AI for Machinists (1.5 horas)

  • Understand core AI concepts and limitations in operational environments.
  • Write clear prompts for technical and administrative tasks.
  • Verify outputs and reduce errors using practical checklists.
  • Apply confidentiality and safe-use practices onboard.
Tug boat and bulk carrier ship

M02 AI in Fault Diagnosis (2 horas)

Industrial engine room corridor with pipes
  • Structure troubleshooting: symptoms → hypotheses → tests → root cause.
  • Create diagnostic plans and decision trees for critical equipment.
  • Improve logbook and record quality to accelerate analysis.
  • Document findings and corrective actions with traceability.

M03 Technical Report Writing with AI (2 horas)

Port waterfront with ships and bridge
  • Draft clearer, more consistent reports that are audit-ready.
  • Standardize technical language and structure (summary, findings, actions, evidence).
  • Reduce documentation time without losing accuracy.
  • Improve translations and communication between ship and shore teams.

M04 Predictive Maintenance Management (1.5 horas)

Cargo ship loading at industrial dock
  • Turn logs and observations into actionable maintenance plans.
  • Define intervals, criticality, and priorities based on risk.
  • Create work orders and checklists aligned with procedures.
  • Prepare condition reports and recommendations for fleet decisions.

M05 Maritime Safety and AI (2 horas)

Container terminal dock with cargo trucks
  • Identify operational risks and reinforce safety culture.
  • Create checklists and safety briefings for recurring tasks.
  • Support incident analysis and preventive actions.
  • Align documentation with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.

M06 Task Automation with AI (2 horas)

Boat interior hydraulics
  • Automate repetitive tasks (summaries, templates, emails, planning).
  • Design workflows with human oversight and validation.
  • Build reusable prompt libraries by role (onboard / office).
  • Improve coordination and task follow-up with standardized formats.

M07 Final Project & Practical Cases (2 horas)

Ship unloading in port at sunset
  • Solve a real case (reporting, diagnosis, maintenance, or safety) using AI.
  • Deliver evidence: prompts, outputs, validation, and final documentation.
  • Present an implementation plan applicable to your operation or fleet.
  • Consolidate a personal toolkit of templates and procedures.

Format, assessments & support

  • Format: online. Self-paced or cohort-based (depending on license).
  • Assessments: hands-on exercises per module + final project.
  • Certificates: completion certificate and progress tracking (depending on plan).
  • Support: guidance and Q&A support during implementation.
